Facts to Dispel the Common Myths That Surround ISO 9000 Software

12/21/2020

Nowadays, you can rarely open an industry-related publication without coming across a reference to ISO 9000. There is, however, a debate surrounding this standardization option that has fast separated people into believers and skeptics. Both groups argue their positions fervently, trying to prove the other group wrong. This has given rise to several myths on ISO 9000 software. Below are some facts to dispel the common myths being peddled about this standardization software.

It is a European standard

If you assume that ISO 9000 is a European standard, this is not the case. The ISO {international organization for standardization} is based in Switzerland but comprises industry groups from all over the world. In fact, the ISO technical committee 176 that wrote the ISO 9000 series has a substantial U.S industry representation. Moreover, the standard has been adopted in more than eighty countries.

It only works for large companies

Most people shun ISO 9000 software because they assume that only large companies can afford its adoption. Even so, when you understand that this is a quality system designed to improve your processes, you will appreciate that it is appropriate for all company sizes. The adoption of ISO 9000 is quite inexpensive when compared to the high returns you can expect with the software.

It will not improve your product's quality

Most critics of ISO 9000 say that the standard only needs compliance paperwork and bureaucracy that will guard it while doing nothing for your product's quality. Nonetheless, the quality standard incorporates a system for evaluation and correction and another for the implementation of preventive or corrective actions. This translates to quality products.

Some people will believe the above and other myths that cause them to shun ISO 9000 software. However, before doing so, talk to unbiased experts on what the standard can or cannot do for you. This way, you will make an informed choice on whether or not it will benefit your bottom line.
